The Nederland Youth Board is a Town of Nederland board that will engage in a wide variety of issues. Giving local youth a voice in local civic life and decision-making processes, the Youth Board will be supported by Mountain Coalition for Youth staff and members with extensive experience in government and civic affairs as well as by the Nederland Board of Trustees.
Staff who will be supporting this youth board have served on local town boards, managed non-profit programs, and worked on policy and administration at the local, county, and even federal levels. Additional regional training and networking will be supported.
The Details

Interest and openness to group collaboration to help make decisions that will impact our community
Willingness to work and learn in order to make a positive difference for youth in the Peak to Peak area
One 5 - 6 hour-day of meetings per month. Meetings will occur during the school day and participants will be excused from classes. Meals will be provided.
Participation in other community meetings, with local leaders and entities outside of group meeting times in order to complete duties and/or make progress on specific projects. These are to be expected but will be rare. Participants will receive rewards and recognition for this work.

Current Nederland High School, Chinook West, or Gilpin High School students, youth who are homeschooled OR do not currently attend school, but are between the ages of 14-18 and live in the Peak to Peak area
Interest in learning more about our community in order to contribute to it
Willingness to get to know students from other high schools
Open to having your voice heard in city government and local leadership groups
Desire to work on developing your personal leadership skills
Previous leadership experience is not required

Leadership Training: Specific skills and training in equity, public speaking, meeting facilitation, town government structure, legislation, and more
Local and regional professionals will be recruited to share their expertise with you
